Mario Party Superstars is a call to action for everyone looking to seriously put some friendships on the line over a few gold stars. If you are old enough to remember, the original Mario Party games on N64 havetill somehow held up to the test of time as the go-to party games at many of your friends’ houses and apartments and with Mario Party Superstars, a huge amount of those games have been brought into the current generation of gaming. In terms of how you link up with your friends, there are a few options. Here’s how to play with friends in Mario Party Superstars.

How to Play Mario Party Superstars with Friends Online

In this day and age, it’s a good thing to have games that have online multiplayer capability and despite being known as one of the best couch party franchises in gaming history, Super Mario Party All-Stars still has you covered when it comes to playing with friends and strangers in faraway places. When you get to the main menu, you will be given the option to play Offline, Local or Online. Pick online and from there, select either the Friends or Strangers tab.

If you are playing with friends, select that tab and connect online and continue until you see Toad’s Village with the Friend House. Select it and you will be given the ability to join or create a room. From there you can customize if you will have a password needed to join or not.

If you prefer to feel the need to subject yourself that is the pain to losing to your friend right next to you on the couch, at the main menu, select the offline mode. It can be a bit confusing because you also have the ability to select local as well, but this is only if you are playing with others nearby who are playing on different consoles than you. You want to select offline and from there, you can have your friends join you side by side on the same console.

One of gaming’s most enduring franchises, no matter what age you are, there is just something eternally awesome about gathering a bunch of weird-looking characters together and throwing them into a PG version of Squid Game.

Mario Party Superstars is available now on Nintendo Switch.
